Day 2: Agra to Fatehpur Sikri and Noida
Sunrise at the Taj Mahal—An Optional Visit
Check out and travel the 40 kilometers to Fatehpur Sikri after breakfast. after reaching
Fatehpur Sikri.
A Mughal ruler from the 16th century established the little city of Fatehpur Sikri in
northern India, to the west of Agra. At its heart are a number of structures made of red
sandstone. The Buland Darwaza gate provides access to the Jama Masjid Mosque. There is
Salim Chishti's marble tomb nearby. The Diwan-E-Khas Hall features a carved center
pillar. Located next to the 5-story Panch Mahal, the Jodha Bais Palace showcases a
fusion of Hindu and Mughal architectural traditions.
Buland Darwaza: At a height of 54 meters, the Buland Darwaza—whose name means
"great gate" in Urdu—is a really impressive building.
Diwan-E-Khas: One of the most intriguing ornate structures in Fatehpur Sikri is
the Diwan-i-Khas, also known as the hall of the secret audience. The center tower, also
called the Lotus Throne, is one of the most beautiful sights to view here because of the
meticulous craftsmanship in the stone carvings.
Jodhabai Palace: Also known as Mariam-uz-Zamani Palace, this palace served as the
residence of the Mughal queen Jodhabai. It was believed that the Emperor's Harem, which
included additional ladies from the royal harem, was located at Jodhabai Palace.
Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti: The mausoleum of Sheikh Salim Chisti, constructed
between 1580 and 1581, is one of the most significant structures within the palace
complex. Crafted from exquisitely carved white marble, the structure stands as a
testament to the creative brilliance of medieval India's stone carvers.
Jama Masjid: Akbar had Salim Chishti construct the major mosque, also known as
Jama Masjid. Carved red sandstone forms the rectangular shape of the building.
Panch Mahal: There are 176 columns that support the pyramidal construction of
Panch Mahal, which has 5 floors. The ladies of the adjacent Zanana enclosure likely used
the stone-carved nets or Jaalis to divide the pillars in bygone times. Intricate
carvings adorn each of the sandstone columns. Anoop Talav is the name of the pool in
front of the building, and the structure is also known as the "Badgir" or the wind
catcher tower. Theatrical, musical, and dance performances were frequent tenants of this
structure, which is mostly recognized for its entertainment purposes.
